Burned out brake light

I have a 2000 Cadillac STS with the left rear brake light out. All other lights on the left work. How do you get to the bulb? From inside the trunk, it appears that all lights on the left are in one unit. That unit has about 4 mounting bolts, but it appears to be sealed. There is one connector wire. Can you get to the bulbs from underneath the car? Does the entire light unit have to be replaced? What kind of sealer is used if the whole unit is replaced?

Probably have to remove the mounting screws. The unit should then slide off of the car far enough to get to the individual sockets. You do not have to replace the whole assembly, just the bad bulb.

Straight from the GM manual:

1. Open the rear compartment lid.
2. Remove the left or right rear compartment side trim
3. Disconnect the taillamp connector (3).
4. Press the grommet (2) out of the rear compartment.
5. Remove the fasteners (5) securing the tail lamp (1) to the body.
6. Remove the taillamp (1) from the body
7. Remove the tail/turn signal bulb
