Alternator wiring

Hey Guys,
Where can I get a diagram of wiring up a GM one wire alternator and an amp meter on an old Oliver tractor which is
12 volt and has negative ground. I connected everything but, the
amp meter doesn't move at all and the battery won't hold a charge.
Thanks for any suggestions. George

Are you sure the alternator is good? Try metering directly off the alternator to see if you are getting something in the 13-14 volt range.

Other thought: Does the alternator you are trying to use have an internal voltage regulator?

Here's some discussion on voltage regulators:

Maybe it's a generator. I put a new generator in my 6-volt positive ground tractor that also was hard to start and it cured the hard start AND the amp gauge once again worked.
