car has lost take off power
91 chevy corsica (fun stuff!!
My car has lost some take off power.
I think the cat is plugged but i am not sure. The engine is a lot hotter than it usually is, and it starts harder than usual. I plan on checking at night to see if the manifold is cherry red and let you guys know. It also stated to chugg again. i checked the hose that was crack last time and it looked good but when i pulled it off and a little bit of gas came out. Along with that it sound as if something is being sprayed out really fast when the pedel is press at a setin point. I looked at the egr valve and it is black. i put my hand next to it and i could feel air coming out of it as i reved on it.
My question is: do you think the cat is plugged before i take it off. a strat pipe will replace. i dont have $65 to replace it.

I was just kidding, don't worry, we don't mind helping others at all, that is the point of these forums.
It could be a clogged cat, so do as you said and check and see if the manifolds get real red after being ran for a bit.

For anyone who suspects a clogged cat, is this always a good tell-tale test? -to see if the manifold glows? If that is true, that will help many people quickly rule or rule out the cat, without having to disconnect the exhaust, let's say.
On a somewhat related note, my car once started on fire under the car because the cat was sitting on grass in a field I parked while tending to a water system.

If the manifold gets red hot don't you blow head gaskets? I've had problems with cats. before, replace and recycle. If the car uses any oil, it is most likely clogging the cat. The restriction in the cat. will cause more pressure on the gaskets. Excessive heat will warp heads.

i replaced the fuel pressure regulator with one from a salvage yard. The old one was junk, the vaccum was pulling gas through the vaccum lines. The car starts right up now ( no more constant cranking. I am hoping for better MPG. I want 25 not 18 like i am getting. i also cleaned the fuel injecters mostly around the o-rings.
