stuck in park

Is it parked on a incline? If so, get a friend and start pushing on the rear or front end while trying to get vehicle out of park.
A car being on a incline causes alot of pressure to be on the small parking pin/latch.
If that isn't the case, it maybe your brake switch. When you apply your brakes, it should disengage a safety lock on the shifter. Depress the brake slowly, you should be able to hear the "click".

Also,if your front wheels are were turned hard right,or left when you
placed the shift lever in the park position. Start car,and turn wheels left/right till straight then try to move lever out of park.

Only problem is that most steering wheels will not turn when vehicle is in park. That said, you can move the steering wheel a little, and that may release the pressure and allow shifting out of park.
If this Caviler has a console shifter, look for an emergency release button. It should be near the shift lever and may be covered by a pop off tab.
