How do I replace the tail light cover on a 1990 Nissan Maxima GXE?

I backed into the corner of a drive thru bank teller window (embarrassing to say the least) and put a nice hole in the cover of my driver side tail light.

I paid an exorbitant amount of money and bought another one and was told it would be easy. I tried to replace it tonight and found it wasn't.

It looks like it is held on there by a nut on a screw. I grabbed a pair of pliers, but due to the odd angle I couldn't get enough leverage and space to get any real twisting action going. But it felt kind of stubborn, and I'm not sure if that is really what's holding it on.

So my question is, is that what is holding the tail light cover on? And if so, does anyone have any recommendations for what kind of pliers I should be using and where I could get some from?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have a socket wrench set? It is held on my those screws and nuts from inside of the trunk usually.

I think I do, although I don't know if I have any that fit those. I will look though.

Thanks for the help.
