leak

96 oldsmoble cutlass ceria Sl V6 model.

I recently noticed that there are stains in the driveway underneath the car. The appear dark in color and are stains so its not coolant. could it be leaking oil. It wasn't doing it before. car as over 175,000 miles on it.

Engine oil or tranny fluid. At 175,000 it wouldn't be surprising for some of the seals to start showing some seepage.

If it has the 3.1L engine, there is a good chance the intake gaskets are leaking.

I'd say tranny or oil. Best thing to do if not sure..put a piece of cardboard under engine one night and check it the next morning to give you a better idea of where the leak is coming from. I used to work at a big automotive parts chain store and would always tell my customers, "start small, work big."
