I took the factor radio out of my freinds 97 chevy truck, to put in my 97 chevy truck, when I removed it was working fine now the radio works but the cd player says err someone told me that because it it a theft lock radio it will not work without putting in a code, does anyone know of this being true or is the radio just shot? Thanks

hi if u can do the following steps and post the numbers u get i can call gm and get the unlock code for u tomorrow
Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays "LOC")
2. Press and hold presets buttons 2 & 3 or 1 & 4 for approximately 10 seconds. The radio display changes from "LOC" to a three-digit number. Write this number down. If you have a Saturn or GEO, see note below and skip to step 6.
3. Don’t take long, fifteen seconds max before the next step
4. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one

He has a Chevy pickup.........

A "err" message typically means a CD player malfunction. Doesn't the radio display "CODE" when you reapply power?
