No reverse
I have a 2002 chevrolet silverado with a 4L60E transmission.
I have no reverse, drive works fine. A tech without looking at it said it would need to be rebuilt $1200.00. Is there any electrical connection that might of come lose or am i looking at a rebuild.
Thanks

Can't remember if it's reverse that is affected, but some GM trannies lose the direct drive piston from cracking; happened on the 4L80E in my wrecker about 10 years ago. If that was the problem it CAN be repaired without a full overhaul, but still requires R&R, I think. How many mioles on the truck? That $1200 figure may not be yoo bad a deal.

And they diagnosed that without ever looking at the truck? Quite possible there is a known problem and that they are familiar with it. Unfortunately transmission work is very easy to up-sell to more than what the unit might need. At 92,000 miles I wouldn't expect it to need an overhaul if it was properly cared for. You might ask around and/or get a second opinion (without revealing the current diagnosis) to see what someone else says. You've done business with this tranny shop and trust them or you've been referred by someone you trust & who trusts them?
Wouldn't hurt to have it scanned to see if you pick up any tranny codes; I would have at least expected the shop to do that before pronouncing what was wrong with it.
Here's some info, too:

Some additional reading:

I notice they refer to some forward gears being gone in addition to reverse, so I don't know that what was diagnosed is necessarily definitive.
