2005 Toyota Corolla needs charcoal cannister replaced according to Toyota mech. diagnostics. Pricey, $380 for the part and at least 3 hrs. to repair. Don't think I want to do it myself, but the check engine light is out now that they checked it and the engine seems to be running fine. Do I really want to stick this much money into a cannister for emission control? Will this actually fix the problem or will the light come on again soon and they'll say it needs another emission control part? 48,000 miles seems too soon for this problem to be cropping up--is it a moneymaking scam? Also have to drive 60 miles to Toyota dealer. Anyone else w/this problem? Or advice from an expert please. Thanks!!!

Since the cannister is a emmission controls device, it should be covered under warranty? Usually emissions warranties are well over 60k miles. Check on that.
If your light is off, you should be fine.
Hopefully you are not trying to squeze extra gas into your tank when the pump stops, this will cause issues like you are having.
From Toyotas website:
"Federal Emission Coverage: Components under the federal emission defect warranty are covered for 36 months/36,000 miles and specified major emission control components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. Specified major emission control components under emission performance warranty are also covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. In addition, emission performance warranty is applicable for 24 months/24,000 miles in states and local jurisdictions that require a periodic EPA-approved inspection and maintenance program."
