Low Fuel Output Light 90 Tracer Merc

Hello, I have checked the fuel pressure at the rail and zero reading. Schrader valve produces fuel flow but not under pressure as a squirt. Schrader valve sticks. Changed filter. Pump operates and shuts off as expected within a couple of seconds. I suspect pressure regulator. Your thoughts please.

Question, is that light checking pump out put or injector output. Car will not start.

First remove the schrader valve and hook up a length of hose (vacuum line) and direct it into a container. Turn the key on and make sure the pump is pumping fuel at a good flow. If it is, the regulator is likely suspect. The only other thing that holds the pressure would the injectors.

If no flow - then pump/filter. If this is the case, replace the filter (just good maintenance). If you arrive at replacing the pump, have it checked out, they can be expensive.

I'm not following which light you're referring to. There is low fuel light on a lot of vehicles to tell you when your tank is low on fuel. If that's the one and it's on, you may be out of fuel = your problem with fuel pressure.

Hope this helps,

Bob
