97 buick skylark transmission slipping

97 buick skylark transmission slipping
i have a 87 buick that the transmission will slip or jerk at around 45 mph it does this when accelerating and slowing. can you give me any idea of what to check? thanks

1), check correct fluid level and fill if needed.
2), if trans oil is more than 2 years old, replace oil and filter, then roadtest.
