SUV's

Can anyone please explain the basic difference in an SUV and a crossover SUV? I assume the crossover is on a car frame, but what is the difference in truck and car frames?

Basically, cars these days dont even have frames. Manufactures use what is called a sub-frame, Most are front wheel drive, while some are all wheel drive. The engine, transmission and their components are attached to a sub-frame and then attached to the underbody structure. While the underbody is most certainly reinforced, it is nowhere near the strength of of a full framed vehicle, as a pickup. Crossover vehicles were designed for people who wanted the roominess of a SUV, but didnt necessarily need the toughness of a SUV. And while most are equipped to tow light loads, like small boats and campers, you couldnt tow travel trailors and construction equipment.
