ford ranger stalling
I have a 1986 ranger 2.3 EFI w/5speed and 165K. The engine starts fine but when warmed up and slowing for a stop or iding sometimes it will run very rough and stall. Sometimes there is no warning, it will just stall. I have to keep giving it gas to stay running then it will idle high for a while. The exhaust has a strong scent during these scenarios. I have replaced the egr and oxygen sensor with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First Step:
Pull The Codes!
This vintage EEC-IV computer can store many codes w/o lighting the Check Engine Light (in fact you may not even have a CEL)
It may tell us something, or it may say "all clear"
But even an "all clear" gives us information (about what it isn't)
