98 Mercury Cougar problem

I am a mechanic that also does side work- I have a 98 Mercury Cougar that idles up and down in park. It has a 3.8 and automatic trans.
Thanks,
Ken

idles high and low

I have a dodge colt I bought for my daughter that is doing the same thing. Changed the O2 sensor and gave it a full tuneup includng cap and rotor. Still happening. I can disconnect the mass air flow sensor and it stops, although put in a new mass Air flow and it does the same thing.

I am now moving to other sensors and then the coil.

Can I ask if you notice a miss when driving, NOT under load? (or when you let of the gas?)

I will let you know If I figure it out

Clean out your IAC valve and TB (unless it's one of the ceramic ones that says on it "don't clean")

Check the voltage on the TPS

Any codes?
