76 GMC K25 Fuel pump installation.

I am replacing the fuel pump on my 76 GMC. I took the old one off and now need to know the proper installation procedure for the new one. It has this "arm" like lever sticking out of where it mates with the engine block. Do I just manipulate this "arm" around until it fits in or is there somthing on the inside of the engine block that I have to align first.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Butter up both sides of new gasket with gasket sealer. Then slip the bolts through the fuel pump bolt holes. Then slide the buttered up gasket on. Now tilt the fuel pump so the arm is below any eccentric in the motor, as you insert. This is a must; you must be below that eccentric! So you want to tilt the fuel pump in such a manner, as you push it in, that the bottom of the fuel pump is tilted away from the block, making the arm be lower. Then push it in and you may feel resistance if you are on that eccentric. The bolts will draw it in.

There are sites on the web that actually show you a picture. I did not submit it due to possible conflict of interest on this board.

76 GMC K25 Fuel PumP Installation

Thank you very much.

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to install the "arm" above the eccentric, is that even possible?

Yes. There could be bad consequences I'd imagine.
