94 Saturn pre-heater

I'm looking to add a pre-heater to my Saturn sc2 dohc. I'd like to add a tank style, but will settle for a frost plug type if need be.

Is it possible to use the tank style with this car? Kats catalog does not contain any information on any Saturn older than 99. Most auto supply searches only show the frost plug style.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Tank heaters have proven to be the most effective because of the circulating design. They are typically installed in a line running from the water pump (or block) back to the block. That is the ideal circulation path for the heated coolant to take.

However... it has be come more difficult to install a tank heater as just described due to the lack of access points to the water jacket. Most of today's small engines simply don't have the water pump or block access fittings like the larger engines.

That leaves the frost plug heater which heats directly into the block water jacket and the lower radiator hose heater. Either of those would work well for a small engine with the heat moving through the water jacket convectively.

Hope this helps,

Bob
