P1870 code on 2002 trooper isuzu
My Isuzu Trooper recently started flashing a check transmision light and when I pulled the code it read P1870 which I have found out means transmission component slipping. I have researched this a little and come up with a couple or more different answers. One is a faulty torque converter, another is a bad alternator or electrical connection, also I have seen as much as replace the transmission! Is there a way to narrow this down before it costs an arm and a leg?

I worked for Isuzu for a couple years and 95% of the time I ended up replacing the transmission. The trans fluid cooler on Troopers and Rodeos get restricted very easily and causes the fluid to overheat resulting in internal slippage and torque convertor failure. SORRY.

Ouch
Thank you for your depressing but blunt info, luckily I just bought the vehicle and have a 30 day opt out and intend to do just that. I still have to purchase a car of equal or greater value any suggestions?.

replacment
I would look at a Toyota, or Honda product as a replacment. They just seem to run and run forever. If you look at Honda check and make sure the timing belt has been replaced if it is high mileage. I just got a Toyota Highlander and I love it and so does my wife.

1870 is a valve worn out in the valve body in the tranmission. It can be fixed by taking out the valve body and buying a hone from a tranny shop and honeing out the bore for the valve and putting in a new bigger valve. Done it alot on GM products. We usually get around 350-450$ depending on vehicle !! good luck !! PS that 4L30 tranny has a bad reputation any for being junk!
