1994 Chevy G20 Van --- Won't Shift into Gear
1994 Chevrolet G20 Van
176,000 miles
I was driving down the highway going about 55mph, and was going up a hill and when the engine went to downshift to get up the hill, it shifted out of gear and the engine just reved up. I pulled off the highway and tried just about everything to get it going, no luck. It wouldn't go into Reverse, Drive, 1st or 2nd gear... basically nothing. When you take it out of Park and move the needle to a gear, you can't feel or hear any change like you normally do when you shift into gear. I have a buddy who's a "shade tree mechanic" that has told me it might be the torque converter, any suggestions?
** Also, the van shifted like a dream, no trans problems whatsoever before this. As well, the fluid level is right on the money.
Thanks,
Chris

Could be a number of things. On that vintage (same year as my wrecker) you could try reading codes. It's DIY and the tranny codes don't generally light the check engine light. Here's help:
http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
Check under the left end of the dash, above your left knee, for the data link connector.
If you come up with code(s) you may have to research them a bit; I'm not sure the listing on that site is complete for tranny codes.
