2007 Toyota Highlander indicator light

I have a friend that just got 5000 miles on her Highlander, and the Service indicator light went on. I guess its simply an oil change reminder.

Is there a way to turn the light off ? (other than a trip to the dealer ?)

thanks

On some vehicles it will "sense" the breakdown of oil and automatically shut off when new oil is in. Since it went on at 5000 miles I assume her highlander doesn't "sense" it as much as turns it on every 5000 miles. She can call around and see if she can find a place that will check for free.

Found in another forum:

Turn ignition key to 'ON' and press the odometer button until the display reads actual mileage... not Trip A or B.

Turn ignition key to OFF.

Hold in the same button you used in step 1.

While holding the button in, turn ignition key to 'ON'.

The 'Maint Reqd' light should blink and go out.

And some models you find trip A and do the same thing.
