1990 buick reatta..dash and climate control not working

after hooking the battery posts in reverse it blew alot of things.

the car runs fine and everything works except the led instrument panel and the ecc (electronic climate control)

this is what i replaced

cps (central power supply)
ecc (electronic climate control panel)
bcm (body control module)
ecm (engine control module)
ipc (instrument control panel)
hvac programmer
derm (supplemental inflatable restraint module)

after replacing the instrument panel, the climate control and all the other computer things on the data link line and doing all the troubleshooting in the manual for this car. it still wont light up the dash or ecc(climate control).

00 error---- on the instrument panel and 3 dashes on the ecc panel

this is part of the computer system which is called the data link..

i get varying voltage on the data line everywhere its tested. so the line is not shorted or opened anywhere.

all fuses and fusible links are good.

this should work but it does'nt.

I am a buick tech, but never worked on the elontronics of this car, and am quite unfamiliar with them. I can check with the old timers on Monday to see what they have to say about it.

i replaced all the components on the bcm/ecm data line.

it has to be in the wiring but everything checks out

From what I remember, they were a specialty car that was low volume and almost hand-made (especially early).

They used a lot of GM components. I think the engines were 3.8L V6s.

If the dash had a lot of digitals, it could have had many Corvette components. Some of the Corvettes of that time and earlier had a lot of "quirks" and dash problems. I had a '95 C4 Corvette that I bought used in 1997 and bought the GM warantee (high buck) to avoid the problems of the earlier versions.

I don't mean to scare you, but this might be a clue to what is in the car. It might just have a lot of the Trefeo and Riviera components, which might be less of a problem.

It might be worth the money to have a dealer look at it, especially if it is a convertible.

I asked a few guys at work and they said faulty clusters were the main problem with them. Even the replacement ones were known to be bad. It would take a few remanufactured clusters before they got a good one. They said if it displayed error, it was junk. The diagnosis proceedure on these pretty much just dierected you to check voltage and ground to the cluster, module and radio. If the power and ground were good, replace the item with the problem.
