95 Pontiac Bonneville

I have a 95 Bonneville. Had it for about 2 years and after the first couple months every time I would stop at a red light after it warmed up the oil pressure would drop and the alert thingie would ding. A couple more monthes passed and sometimes it was fine and then others it would act up. Then something flew off one morning and it was smelling really bad so a friend suggests removing the cadililic convertor, and just straight pipe it out the back. So we did and it still acted like crap. Up to this point we have replaced one of the coil packs and wires. Serpintine belt and quite a few hoses. Then today after getting on it a bit it is acting really bad. Every time I hit the brakes and let off it wants to stall and it is losing power and the oil pressure is dropping really low. But as long as I give it gas the oil pressure gauge stays about half way. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I posted yesterday that my 95 Bonneville was stalling and losing oil pressure. I drove it around the block today and it is losing power and in between 1st and 2nd gear it makes a knocking/ more like a clicking noise. If any one has any ideas what could be causing this I would be very greatful.

Your oil pressure is too low to keep the lifters pumped up. The clicking you hear is excessive valve clearance. That can kill performance.

You may be able to get the oil pressure up a little using a heavier oil like 20w/50w, but that really doesn't fix the problem. You may have a bad oil pump or worn bearings. The latter would require major engine work.

Hope this helps,

Bob
