vw beetle turn signals

we have a 2000 new beetle, making another appearance here, today the turn signals quit working, both at the same time, and when you put on the emergency flashers, the left side flashes faster than the right,

where to look first? the flashers light up so the bulbs are good, right? and we have clicking, too.

I have a Haynes manual but thought i'd try here first, always had good luck in the past

thanks!

Try changing out your flasher unit. It sounds as if it may have gone south. The fast flashing indicates bulb failure, also. Let us know if the change makes a difference.

Don't depend on the flashers. Get up, get out, and look at all four corners with the turn signal switch on - first right and then left. Then, with the turn signals off, turn on the hazard light switch and check outside again. I'm betting on one or more burned out filaments.

when i put the emergency flashers on, all the bulbs flash, but the left side flashes faster than the right. And we have clicking.

when i turn on the turn signal, (different switch on the steering column) neither left or right turn signal comes on, no bulb light up, and there's no clicking

there must be two different relays, right?
