starting problem 1996 chevy silverado

ive got a 96 chevy silverado 5.0l that will fire up with either and then die but will not start on its own i have spark and it will get fuel to the engine however when i turn the key to run i can hear the pump but it sounds like it is blowing air in the fuel tank any ideas out there

Possible you've had a fitting come loose. Best thing to do would be to get a pressure gauge on it and see if you're getting enough output from the pump to get the pressure required for the engine to run.

Also,i have stupid question,is the gas gauge correct?...it may be as simple as putting gas in it,also the screen on the pump may have come off,or its possible that the pump itself is bad,very common,good luck!
