Battery sizes?

I have a 91 Mazda B2600i. The battery I have 22-26 sizes range with 630cca. I purchased a 24 group size but is a little small for the brackets that secure the battery. I can secure it with something else. My question is - Does it matter what the size group I pick as long at the CCA match what is recommended? Does the 26 size holds more power than the 22 group sizes?

A good rule of thumb is to buy the largest battery that will comfortably fit in the battery tray. All things being equal, the largest battery should last the longest. Some places try to sell a one-size-fits-all, then puts a spacer on the bottom of the battery. Try to do better than that.

In Iowa we buy the biggest battery that will still let you close the hood.

I agree with "MORE POWER", if you can get it to fit in the box even though it may cost quite a bit more, the cost is meaningless when you try to start you car and all you hear is a grunt and it is -10 and your going to have to call someone, the first thought in your mind will be, why didn't I get the big battery with high cca. Have a good one. Geo
