91 Chevy Lumina mini van won't start

Hello newbee here, got a 91 chevy lumina mini van that had a water hose leek. The fitting that comes out of the intake right under the fuel injector. The 3.1 was running just fine before i shut it down to fix the fitting, but the fitting broke off. So i had to tare the intake off, because there wasnt any room for my big fat head to work on the problem. A bunch of crap had to be torn off the motor, just to get the intake off. But before i removed the distributor, i marked every thing so it would go back in ok,to put the motor back in time. I fixed the fitting and put it back on, along with the distributor, and all the other crap that had to come off. It started right up, but after i shut it back down, it wouldnt start again. Played with the timing, but nothing. So it figured it might need a timing chain, so i put one of them in. Got it all back together, it started right up again but wouldnt start again after the second try. Thought it might be the little thingy under the rotor, so i put one of them in, and nothing. I know the timing is right, because with the mark on the ballancer lined up at 10 deg, (ATDC) on the compression stroke. I line the #1 plug tower right up with the rotor and lock it down. I can see that its getting fuel, and when i pull any of the spark plugs out and stick them in the plug wire and lay it on the block, it gets spark while somebody cranks the motor. The only thing that hasnt been changed is the coil. Please Advise

Did you make sure you plugged all the connections in tight to the distributor also the sensors that are on the manifold such as the coolant sensor & such. Also did you torque down the intake manifold as there are no leaks. also if you took the TB off was the gasket put back on. I would make sure your connections to the distributor are all tight with no broken or loose wires first.

Yeah i believe i did all that, although the gear on the bottom of the distributer did seem to have a lot of slop in going up and down. I also put a new gasket under the TB, and put some gasket sealer on the manifold before i set it back down in. I just dont get it, because it started right up, and sounded kinda good to me atleast. I thought id shut it back off to see if it would start again, and nothing. Maybe ill just throw a new distributer in since theres a lot of slop in the one i have.
