It all depends what kind of money you want to sink into this old clunker.

Motor? Lift? Exhaust?

Spend a few nights watching reruns of "Overhaulin'" on TV; bound to see some ideas you like. Or go to their website:

Ford

Personally I like them kind of stripped so I'd put my money into performance for sure, definetely Headers and a Flowmaster, or even the whole cat back system, next a 4 barrel carb if not one there already, performance plugs and wires, etc. ( list goes on and on, camshaft, thermostat, pulleys , ignition module and more ) you could sink a lot of money into it but try to keep thing in perspective as well ,after all it is an ' 84 so have fun with it but don't go overboard.
