95 altima runs rough and dies if you hit the gas
hi i have a 95 altima with about 160k on it just put in brakes and drove to the twin cities and back and when i started it up the next morning it ran fine till i was about halfway to work and it sputtered and died couldnt restart it had it towed mech couldnt find the problem towed it home and it strted right back up the next morning but runs really rich and the motor kicks pretty hard like its misfiring exhaust is almost greyish/black but no oil loss on the dipstick no loss of coolant or other fluids runs really rough but if you press on the gas it kicks hard then dies i need to get this fixed b4 the snow flies as i dont like the bus or taking a taxi those are very very expensive now that duluth has a free market on them, anyone know what the problem may be would be a great help, i also have a 94 ram 1500 with brand new fuel pump runs fine but the gas guage always reads empty or a hair above empty friend said it needs to have the guage reset or somthing of the sort the ram has no plates so i cant drive it but i need to fix the car as i was getting about 35 mpg b4 it started acting up.

I assume the mechanic would have pulled codes, but just in case, you can check them yourself. Here's how:

You'll need to locate the ecu.
One of my first suspicions is that you may need an O2 sensor. Did the gas mileage go down the toilet, i.e. is it sucking gas like there's no tomorrow?
The sensor can be tested if you have a meter:

says maf sensor failure but tried unplugging
unplugged the maf sensor both temp and air flow plugs and it ran fine for about 30 seconds then went back to doing what it did before it read error code misfire cyl 1 (replaced plugs and wires and the coil code gone now) now it said error code air temp sensor failure now it wont start and stay running for more than 20 seconds at a time and it still bucks and runs super rich

Some one here on the forum here had a lot problems of with a Nissan, I believe a 98 Altima, couldn't get it run right, and replaced the distributor on it. He said it took care of everything.
That may have had a faulty camshaft sensor with the distributor.
I don't remember what he had for symptoms. I believe it just quit on him.
