O/S Temp Sensor not working

my 2005 Impala's outside temperature is showing -40 degrees instead of real temperature-what is wrong with it, how do I get it fixed? Dealership garage said that they had never seen this problem(yea right).

Need help

-40 is the default reading when there is an open in the circuit. Find the temp sensor, usually mounted to the radiator support, disconnect it, jump the 2 wires together, and recheck the reading (may take up to 1 minute for the module to recognize the change) it should now read high, like 150 or so. If it does the temp sensor is bad, if it doesn't you have a broken wire between the temp sensor and the module.
