$500 for an oil pan gasket

Hello All-

My local repair guy said that the oil leak on my 93 camry is from the oil pan gasket. Bad news is that the book quotes it as a 5 1/2 hour job. Any idea why so much labor? Is this the truth???

$500 oil pan gasket

LOL He saw you coming and said to himself, "He looks like a fish, think I'll reel him in" lol

No dam way, we are talking about removing about 18 or 20 bolts, cleaning the area good and adding gasket seal with the new gasket.

One hour tops, even if he is drinking. lol

I think the gasket is about 15 to 18 dollars?

That's what I thought, too. I've been checking Google, though. Looks like you have to drop the front of the exhaust to get the oil pan off. Cheapest that I've found by callling around is still $350.

Sounds reasonable. This requires the removal/disconnecting exhaust, removing lower suspension corssmember, and the center engine mount member and the stiffner plate.
