Overheating Occasionally

I have a 2002 Pontiac Gran Prix that steam comes out from under the hood when at rest, on the highway everything is fine. Under the hood, antifreeze is present although cannot find any evidence of where its leaking. Hoses recently replaced. Radiator can stand to be flushed.

Anyone have any idea of what can be wrong?

You need to pressure test the cooling system. Either that, or get the engine up to operating temp and look for a leak. Is this a GT, GTP, or an SE?

Here is ONE idea: Make sure radiator fan is working (comes on after a while when the temp gauge climbs). At idle you need one; at highway speed you don't. Which could explain your problem.

Also note how much coolant you have to add and how often. IF you just fill it up and you idle it and then it overheats anyway, and then if you recheck the coolant level and it is good within reason, then I would not blame the coolant leak, and instead simply blow that off as a coincidence.
