Question 1998 dodge caravan starter problems

I have a 1998 dodge caravan an im having starter problems I think.I hear a clicking noise from the relay and a click from the stater but van will not start.In the last month the van wouldn't start 3 time but eventually started.Should i get a new srarter or is there a few test i could do?Can any one help me.

It sounds like you have a weak battery. Why the battery is weak is another question. It could be the battery or it could be the alternator.

battery is brand new. The alternator is 5 months old.I get a 12 volt reading when the van is off an 14.1 when the van is on before it completely stoped.

it's a 3.3L eng

I'd try a new start relay first. If your not sure which one it is, by listening, have someone try to start, while you put your hand/finger, on relays one at a time. Once you find the right one, check & see if any of the other relays by it, have same part #. Usually, you find one or two the same to switch them temporarily to test, and record part # for buying a new one if needed.
