Question Help me eliminate squeal

Have a 77GM truck with inline 250-6 changed to standard head. When driving down road a squeal starts that gets worse with acceleration. Sometimes it stops. Power steering pump is new and belt is tight as stated by repair manual. Alternator is charging correctly and belt seems to have proper tension. If one can turn alt. pulley by hand(engine off)is is too loose? Could bearings in alternator be faulty? Have had some ps fluid drip onto alternator, could this provide squeak causation? What type capacitor would you recommend to alleviate alternator noise interfering with radio and limited cell phone use? Thanks for your time and help.
All is appreciated.

how do you get the ideal tension on v-belts such as this?
the newer autos with tensioners aren't the headaches these can cause.

You can buy a tension guage cheaply - or tighten enough that it is difficult, but possible, to move the belt 1/4 inch between pullies.

You can buy filter caps for radio at most auto parts stores and probably at Radio Shack stores. Noise on the radio can also be caused by leaky or bad sparkplug cables and check grounds around the engine/frame/battery area.
I have also noticed that sometimes the alternator will emit noise to the radio when they are about to fail. I have had that happen to me a couple times.
Good luck with your project.

did you have noise before the new power steering pump? did you replace the belt? are the belts shinny on the contact side? does it squeal at idle? loosen belts one at a time and check for up/down and side/side movement of parts.(bearing wear). as for noise in radio, have you changed plug wires recently? or plugs? how is the ground from the engine to the body? soooo many parts: sooo little time!! been there and done that too many times to count!

For the type noise you're describing, you should be able to get it by raising the hood and operating the throttle by hand. A piece of clean heater hose makes a good stethoscope to pinpoint where it's coming from. Just don't get it into any moving parts.
