valve gasket

I have a 96 nissan sentra that seems to be leaking oil from the valve cover. Is it bad gasket? Can it be changed without any special tools?

Over a period of time the gaskets will shrink a little or become hard and less effective at sealing against oil seepage. Sometimes if you just tighten the cover bolts a little it will seal off the leak. Don't overdo the tightening, if 1/4 to 1/2 turn doesn't help, the gasket needs to be replaced.

Just a couple of hand tools is usually all you need. The main thing to be concerned about is getting both mating surfaces clean and tighten the cover bolts evenly without over torquing them.

Hope this helps,

Bob
