How to R/R starter 87 VW Jetta diesel?
Any body know the best way to take a starter out of a 1987 VW Jetta with a 1.6 non turbo diesel.
I will be getting a Haynes book tommorow but thought if any body had any pointers they could send them my way
I have the starter free of the bolts and just have to figure how to get the wires off and get it out of there.
My guess is to pull the axle off the transmission and let it hang down some. That might give me the clearance needed../ might not?
Thanks

Thanks Tow Guy
The info does not include the Jetta so I will look at the Fox directions. They sound close.
I was afraid I was going to have to jack the engine. Thats the way it looked. I am working at my Nefphews place in the laneway in a snowstorm with limited tools.
Not the first time. Keeps me in shape I guess.
With this info and the book I buy I should get it
Its a Jetta with over 800,000 KM on it.
Funny thing is that I had the car given to me.
I gave it to my brother because he has a Fox the same year.
My brother got it certified and gave it to my nephew.
Morale of the story.
I should have burnt the car when it was mine.
Thanks again

Wow, almost as many miles as on my wrecker (but I'm not on original - gas - motor). I took a quick glance at the directions in the link; sounds pretty straight forward, but wouldn't be the first time repair directions in a manual were overly optimistic.
