Question I can't find the Oxygen sensor connector !!! Help !!

Hello everybody :

I have a 1991 Ford Explorer V6 4.0L (Eddie Bauer eddition) and the diagnostic shows Oxygen sensor with Lean mixture..

The sparkplugs are completely dark ///

Well I bought a brand new Oxygen sensor ..

when I went to replace the Old Oxygen sensor ..

The old sensor is there, but It is not connected to the Explorer electrical system ..

I don't see any connector near the Oxygen sensor ..

I need help to figure out where is the Oxygen sensor connector.

HELP !!!

Sounds like maybe you snagged it on something and ripped it off. Is this an O2 sensor that is mounted down under the car?

This oxygen sensor is located before the catalitic converter .. the last person who change the Oxygen sensor never connect the sensor to the car electrical system harness ..

I don't see the wire harness to connect the Oxygen sensor ..

I need help to know where is it ..

well if the last person replaced it ,you should of seen ithe engine light on when you got it , you will have to take the time to gentle feel around with your fingers around possible heat shields incase they tucked it behind them because if any other work was ever done(trannny or tansfer case) they may have tucked it away when removing parts so you have to relocated it. becareful of sharp parts!

Couple of diagrams here:

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

Not sure if they'll help. Click the diagrams to enlarge.

And I agree with stic; don't know how you could have had an O2 sensor disconnected without having a check engine light.

Either way, absent evidence it's been ripped off, it has to be within a foot or so radius of the sensor.

Well i think the next step is to go to a junk yard tell them what you need, around here they will tell you roughly where vehicle is located and you have to get it yourself. This way you will be able to see the location, when you cut the harness make sure you get the most wire possible. Go back home and look in area that you just removed that one maybe you will find your harness. If you do find that yours was ripped off and you need to splice it make sure you use shrink tubing on it to make it waterproof. Good luck!

Hey,
I have a '94 4.0 Explorer and on mine the O2 sensor connector is at the back of the engine right below the top of the bellhousing on one side or the other (L/R). Hope that this helps you.
..........................Peace!

Absolutely correct.......

92 and earlier have a "Bracket" on the two top bellhouse bolts. The connector is held to the bracket with a small plastic "Barb"....You really gotta look for it.....it is much easier to see from under the truck.
