91 Toyota Camry Not Moving

I have a 91 Toyota Camry and have taken good care of it since I bought it. Today I was driving and it giving it gas and stopped moving, but I could hear myself pushing the gas pedal and it revving up. I thankfully made it to my mechanic and he got aroudn to testing it and driving it and it seems perfect, but I know what happened today. Any insight to what may happen. It was about 40 degrees today and it was snowing as well.

If I understand your description it sounds as though the transmission was slipping or not engaging. Engine running fine, but no forward motion? How long since the tranny was last serviced and did you check the fluid level?
