Locked up

I just put a new ignition in my 88 ford pickup and now my shift lever won't come out of park/ Any Idea's

I believe there is a little connecting rod or cable that attaches in the column that releases the shift lock. Did you forget to connect this?

To add:

Does your steering wheel unlock?

The steering wheel is unlocked and the only rod went down to the ignition box

Does your vehicle have some sort of brake pedal release? Do you remember how it used to behave when it worked? Did you have to put your foot on the brake first to disengage?
