93 caddie fleetwood brougham

When setting the timing (5.7L engine) after getting the #1 spark plug up where should the mark on the harmonic balance be?

Have you shot the gun at it to see what it is at now? I'm not sure EXACTLY. 6 or 8 BTDC, in that area? Some people try to advance it as far as the engine will handle it without pinging, under load, going up a hill.

With #1 piston at top dead center (TDC) on compression stroke, mark should line up at 0 degrees, or TDC.
