95 Cavalier Starter

I am having trouble with the starter on my 95 Chevy Cavalier the negative (ground) wire keeps on melting after about a days use, i have replaced the wire a number of times yet it still is happening. Can anyone help me out with what could be wrong with it? Thank You

Welcome to the forums!

Either the cable is too close to the exhaust or too much current is running thru it.

Make sure both ends have a good clean connection but your starter may be on it's last legs

Does the starter motor turn slower than it used to?
