Emergency brake stuck on 95 ford escort
Recently i recieved a car from my friend. When she was driving it the car was fine. When i picked it up a day after it had been sitting the brake light was on and the car barely wanted to drive as if the emergency brake was on. i checked the brake, it was all the way down like it should be. i tried moving it up and down and it seems as if it might be lose or something( i dont know anything about cars)
i was just wanting to know if there was an easy way to fix this, or if i should not bother and just sell the car. Thank you for your help! i greatly need some insight.

I'm guessing she never used the hand brake and you did. I'm also guessing that it's rusted. In my climate it's rare to have the hand brake work after 13 years without repair.
Anyhow, do what Michael Van suggested and report back.

i'm not sure where you are, but if it is cold weather and the brake was applied while the undercarriage was wet, the cable is probably frozen. it will thaw in time unless you can get it inside or use a heat gun on it.
