Unhappy Problems with 88 lincoln towncar

My 88 towncar has been parked for a while. I start it up periodically and it runs fine. Just today I noticed that my fuel gauge indicator from the electronic message center is not displaying... No Bars, nothing just black. Could it be something like a fuse or bulb or wire? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums! You didn't mention whether any of the other gauge functions illuminated or not. If the fuel gauge shows the borders and there are no bars, you are out of gas. Let us know if the other gauges light up.

Hi Larry,
Sorry I forgot to mention that yes the other gauges are lit up. And yes there is gas in it and I can run the car for quite a while.
Thanks, amiswish

It could be the sending unit in the tank, or a fuse. I would check the fuse first, since nothing is lit up. If it was malfunctioning I would suspect the sending unit.

Check ground wire at sending unit on tank if you can get to it, if not possibly chewed by a mouse, maybe just needs to be pulled off & cleaned and re-attached.

Thumbs up 88 lincoln towncar

Just wanted to thank you for the thoughts of what could be wrong. Will start with checking the fuse and go from there.
Great forum to visit.
