94 Ford Ranger Starting Issue
94 Ford Ranger XLT, 3.0, Auto, A/C - occasionally will not start hot. When attempting to start, it will diesel or just turn over. After a 10 to 45 minute wait, it starts right up. The first repair attempt was a complete tune-up. The computer says it needs a new EGR valve. Any help would be appreciated.

what are you calling a COMPLETE tune-up? what was and was not changed/adjusted/checked?
next time it won't start, check to see if the plugs/wires are getting voltage/fire. sounds kind of like a bad elect. wire.(wire gets hot expands-separates=cools off-contracts and makes contact) been there-done that. does it ever quit for no reason?
an egr valve isn't that expensive. is the old one working at all or attempting to? vacuum ok? good luck! more info.
