power window problem

98 ford windstar passenger door.have to replace window motor and regulator. what is the best way to get it out? do i have to raise the window? do i just drill the rivets.? or do i not have a clue? i have my door all apart .hopefully someone will feel helpful. thanks

 

If you buy a replacement at the boneyard, or; heaven forbid,
pay full price at a dealer, you'll see by the replacement how it's put together. Your public library may have a Haynes or Chilton manual for that vehicle, photocopy the relevant pages
Unhappily, lots of Fords have 'em riveted in, but you don't have R&R it that way. Buy some 1/2" or 3/8" screws with shallow pan heads and very thin lock nuts, and the regulator arm will swing past w/o scuffing or hitting. Tape the window in the full-up position B4 you do ANYthing!!!!

if i tape the gear and bracket together tightly right where i take the motor and regulator off will that hold the window up enought to get the parts back on.? whichever way i choose to put them on, or do i actually have to tape the bracket the window is in up or hold it up somehow? thanks for your help.
ive been ripped off a couple of times on ebay on so-called guarranted items and so have other people i know so im pretty skeptical when it comes to them. they dont back their garranties up.

isnt it possible to remove the power window motor and regulator and replace them without tearing out everything else? just screw or rivet the motor and regulator back in. and align the gear as it was when it was taken out. the window would also have to be held up in place. am i on the right track?some of these companies are sending complete brackets ,window tracks and all ,is that really necessary? ive never done this before i have no idea. it just seems like i should be able to replace those few parts.

 

when you get the dr panel off look for two holes about 1in round ,they should be about a foot apart. This is were you need to remove rivets for glass , Take an awl ,knock out rivet pin,then drill out the rivet using a Qtr inch bit, go slow until the rivet head comes off.You can now slide glass up and tape out of the way. As for the reg and motor removal there should be arond 6 or 7 rivets holding bthe assy.either 4or5 for reg/motor and 2 for the little slide bar . Take your time and it should be a piece of cake,Dont forget to un plug motor when the rivets are out.Best thing to do to ger center of rivet out of the white retainers on glass is a phillips screw drvr .If you are installing a new regulater w/motor should be rerverce to install.If the are separate BE VERY CAREFULL REMOVING, I would put it in a vice to hold the spring and regulater together {the spring is under high tenstion].
