02 Ford Ranger 2wd

I have a problem with a popping sound coming from the right front wheel that only happens when i have to brake hard. also the abs light will come on after a few miles af driving but the brakes work just fine. I recently changed the wheel bearings on that side and replace the brakes and caliper on the same wheel. what could be making the abs light come on and a popping sound on that wheel???

The ABS should be scanned for a fault code. There's a problem in that system that should be corrected.

The popping sound deserves immediate attention. You have a loose component in the work that's been done there. It could very well be a loose wheel. Raise that corner and check everything from the wheel bearing and wheel to the caliper and caliper mounting.

I wouldn't drive it until that's been done.

Hope this helps,

Bob

I taken everything back apart and discovered the threads on the spindle are slightly damaged is there any way to fix that without replacing the spindle? And could this be the cause of the wheel coming loose after driving for a few days?

Thank you for all your help on this

For the threads on the spindle - those are critical in terms of safety. Unless you have experience in that type of repair or evaluation, I would take to a professional. I can't say what you have without seeing it. It could be minor damage, presenting no problem or a cross thread damage which could be dangerous to use.

If your wheel was loose as well, the spindle thread problem wouldn't have contributed to the wheel being or becoming loose. Both are serious, but separate problems.

In this case put your safety first - have it checked out.
