95 Grand am

Need to replace tranny in sons car,I've been told that only certain models will fit,by some peopls then others tell me as long as engine is the same then tranny will fit Engine is a 3100 Any ideas???Is their a site I could cross reference to see what other cars the trany could be pulled from?

There are codes on the transmission tag. You need them codes. The tag is located on the tranmission just above the steering rack.

if you are just worried about what will physically fit in the car, call your local wrecking yard and tell them your make, model, engine and whatever else they ask for...then ask what other cars use that unit.

the code identifies the specifics about the unit like final drive ratio, operating pressures, etc. you would have to have that info to order a reman unit from most places...but certainly the dealer.
