1989 Chey Tahoe Truck Alternator

I have determined that I need to replace my 1989 Chevy Truck alternator, is there anything special I need to know to remove and replace the alternator? Is the truck timing tied in with the alternator. Please help. Thanks

Timing is not involved.

Disconnect the battery

Remove belt

Disconnect wiring

Unbolt alternator

Stalling & Loss of Power

I have a 1995 VW Cabrio which I dearly love. It has about 69,000 miles on it and I have had no serious problems over the years. I now need to make a decision...either repair what ails it...or buy a new car. I would rather repair it, if it's a reasonably cost-effective fix. [U]Here's the problem[/U] While driving, the car will suddenly begin to lose power, and stop. In fact it feels as though I pulled my foot off the accelarator pedal. (Sometimes when I accelerate or I'm just driving I hear a slight whining noise as the tachometer struggles with RPM variations.) Once it "catches" it seems to jerk a bit. When it does stall, it might start again in 5 to 15 minutes, or not at all. It does not matter if the car is cold or heated up...stalling is just random. One day I can drive ten miles in a snowstorm and the next day it will not start in the garage after sitting overnight. When I try to start the car, it sounds like it wants to turn over (no clicking), but just won't catch. All the electrical stuff (radio, lights, heater work). My friendly foreign car repair guy has replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter and swears that he has checked all electrical. In fact, he thinks that the only screw that might be loose....is in my head. Right! He's not the guy waiting for a tow truck every week. Any advice?Read More
