2001 mustang shifting problem

My 2001 mustang has a problem when ever i drive it normal it wont shift unless i punch it then it shifts and when its in park it goes from 500rpm to 1500rpm when its in park , does anyone know what kind of problem this could be.

It's the type of problem you would have with a vacuum leak in a vacuum modulator or supply line leading to it. I can't say if you have one on that car.

no modulator on that car. shifting is PCM controlled...and it may very well have set a code...see if you can get the codes read and post back. the idle thing may also have set a code...they don't appear to be related, but never say never.

you may also have to have a transmission pressure test done...to see if the pressure control solenoid is working.
