Overdrive Light Blinking

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar and the O/D light blinks when I start the van but after about 30 sec or so it stops blinking and stays off. I also noticed that when it started doing this that my engine light came on. And also when I first start the van and shift into drive it kind of shift hard. But when the O/D light was off and not blinking it would shift into drive easier. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Flashing O/D light

One of the first things would be to ck your fluid level, the blinking o/d light normally means there is a transmission issue at hand and can but not always turn on the ck engine light. You stated the light only comes on when you first start the vehicle and then goes off. with this information, I would have the codes read from an auto repair shop, or better yet purchase a code reader from Sears or most auto parts stores, you will need one that can read OBD 2 (the 2 may be in roman numerals ie.. II )codes. Once you get these codes send me an e-mail and we can go from there.

the blinking od light is the transmission equivalent of the check engine light in an engine management system. Only some trans codes are OBD II codes...so a code reader may or may not get the info for you.

if you get the codes read, please post it (or them) here for all to see and learn about (from). thanks...
