Rear Wheels Locked-up
Rear Wheels locked up on my "86 trans am. I had wheel cylinder and master cylinder replaced about 5 weeks ago. I heard a noise coming from the left rear wheel, off and on that sounded like loud knock....like you would knock on a wooden door, but just one knock. It didn't do it over and over again and it would only do it when I turned a corner. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Can anyone give me a clue??

knocking doesn't sound like a brake noise. Since you've had recent work on the brakes, they should be inspected. if nothing is found there, remove or have removed the inspection cover of the differential. something may have broken and jammed things up.

oh...sorry...many people call it the "rear end". it's the big cast iron thing under your car that the axles and driveshaft go into. the differential is more accurately, the part inside the rear end with the spider and side gears in it. it allows one rear wheel to rotate faster than the other when cornering. since the outside wheel must travel a greater distance in a turn, it must rotate faster (differentiate) than the inside wheel.

Thank you for the explanation...I have someone coming around noon to take a look at it. I am guessing it's going to be at least another couple of hundred dollars. I think they need to get a newer car.
