need to repair a belt pulley on a 1999 chevy blazer
i have a 1999 chevy blazer. the belt pulley is making a squeeking sound. i have been told that the pulley is bad and should be repaired. how much should that run me, money-wise? it sounds like the belt is slipping or loose. but the belts all appear to be tight enough.

if the belt feels tight with the engine off you might try removing the belt and spinning each pulley and accesories over by hand if they all spin freely and you dont see nothing wrong with them its probably just a belt making noise that is usually fixed by replacing the belt couldnt really even suggest how much it might cost you to fix without knowing where the noise is coming from you might see ashop for an estimate if you do not wish to do it yourself.

You really need to track down the source. If it's the idler pulley, usually not too expensive. Air conditioner clutch pulley would be more expensive. Of course water pump pulleys can also squeak.

As a precautionary measure, if the pulleys are original it might not hurt to replace both the idler and tensioner pulleys regardless of whether they are squeeking. When they go bad they usually take out the belt and will, of course, leave you stranded. The replacement pulleys are fairly cheap.

try sparaying belt with belteez or similar belt primer. they vary by name. if the squeek is gone, then your belt IS loose and needs to be replaced. i am assuming you have serpentine belt and automatic tensioner.
